Suction removes excessive secretions and keeps the mouth and airway clear. It is often required for Tracheostomy patients. The cool dry and not so clean air breathed by the patients causes mucus secretion. This mucus needs to be cleaned frequently so as to keep the air passage clean and clear off an obstruction.
Certain suction machines are used for oro-pharyngeal suction. It is used to suction out the saliva or phlegm. Using suction machine is traumatic for the patient and therefor every care and tips provided with the machine must be followed.
The suction machines can be portable type and non-portable type. The non-portable type is electricity operated machine that can not be moved conveniently. The portable type can be battery operated as well and can be moved around with the patient.
